A SIX-YEAR-OLD from Failsworth is gearing up for a walking challenge that will raise funds for a homeless charity and two local rugby clubs.

Abigail Yarwood is walking 10 miles to raise funds for the homeless charity Barnabus, her rugby team the Limehurst Lions, and the All Hornets.

Abigail who plays for the Under 7s team at the Limehurst Lions will walk from the club’s base in Oldham to Rochdale’s Crown Oil Arena on Sunday June 27, in a sponsored walk that will mark the first game she has attended since coronavirus struck.

Abigail’s JustGiving page reads: “I love rugby, but I haven't been able to go to a match for ages because of Covid.

“On 27th June I will finally get to go back to Spotland to watch my favourite team Rochdale Hornets play, so I wanted to make it special.

“I decided to walk from Limehurst Lions who I play for, to Rochdale Hornets who I support.”

Half of the money raised will go to Barnabus, whilst the other half will be split equally between the Limehurst Lions and All Hornets, the supporters association of her favourite team Rochdale Hornets.

After smashing her original goal of £200 via her JustGiving page, Abigail has now raised her fundraising target to £700 which she has also exceeded.

Abigail wrote of her local club: “They have the best coaches and always help us to do our best.

“I love going to training so I wanted to do something to say thank you to all the coaches and help my club.”

Speaking on why she is fundraising for homeless charity Barnabus, she added: “It makes me sad when I see homeless people near where I live and especially if I go into town, so I wanted to do something to help them.”
