A FUN-FILLED music festival in Saddleworth will go ahead as planned later this month amid the coronavirus restrictions.

WelliFest Music Festival will take place on Saturday, June 26 with 1,250 people ready to welcome a host of performers on the stage.

The sell-out event, which is 50 per cent of the festival's usual capacity amid social distancing rules, will watch live performances from 3pm to 9.30pm on the day at Well-i-Hole Farm in Greenfield.

A DJ set will kick proceedings off at 2pm.

Andy Lee Stars will bring a tribute act of pop favourite band Simply Red to the stage at 7.10pm

And then Beyond Madness will headline the festival, the third one since it was launched in 2018.

The event is organised with the help of the Rotary Club of Saddleworth and the Rotary Club of Oldham Metro.

Co-chairman of the Saddleworth club, Tony Burke, is looking forward to bringing a bit of normality back to life through the festival.

He said: "The festival will be for families and the community.

"For many this will probably be the first event where lots of people are in the same area.

"People won't want to be crammed in for their first event.

"We based the capacity on the May 17 lifting of restrictions.

"Nothing changed for us

Tony also appreciates the efforts put in by people giving up their own time to make sure the festival keeps running.

He added: "One of the most important things to recognise is that there are over 60 volunteers helping out with the festival from the start until the end.

"They make such a valuable contribution."

Tony has also praised partner organisations who have helped to put the event together and the sponsors for backing them.

After the festival, attention will then turn to the Saddleworth Show, which will be held on Sunday, September 19, another popular fixture in the diary for Oldhamers.
