EAST Oldham has been included on a list of new store locations targeted by Aldi.

The budget supermarket, which already has more than 900 stores and 36,000 employees across the country, is targeting almost 20 locations across Greater Manchester as part of its ongoing expansion.

A site of around one and half acres is needed in each location to fit a store and a car park for 100 cars.

Aldi prefers a site to be in or on the edge of the town centre, with good access and visibility.

Oldham has several branches of the budget supermarket already, with stores in Chadderton, Failsworth and Shaw.

However, a statement from Aldi’s national property director Ciaran Aldridge suggested there is sufficient demand for the new store locations.

He said: “We’ve been investing in Britain for more than 30 years now, but we know that there are still areas that either don’t have an Aldi at all, or that need another store to meet customer demand.

“More so than ever, we’re keen to explore all opportunities to open new stores across the country.”
