AN interactive map has revealed where Covid cases are rising and falling across Oldham and Tameside areas, as scientists warn cases are “rising exponentially” across England, driven by younger and mostly unvaccinated age groups.

The map displays weekly Public Health England data, which is updated daily.

The figures show new cases for the seven days to June 11.

Werneth had the highest number of weekly cases at 32 (up 26), followed by Hathershaw with 29 weekly cases (up 22) and Alexandra Park with 24 cases (up 19).

In total only six areas out of 36 saw a drop in cases.

A study commissioned by the Government found infections increased 50 per cent between May 3 and June 7,with cases highest in the North West, coinciding with the rise of the Delta coronavirus variant which was first detected in India and is now dominant in the UK.
