A woman has avoided a ban from the roads despite driving in Oldham without insurance, because of the inconvenience it would cause.

Miriam Mensah was found behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Polo on Oldham Road in October last year.

It later emerged she did not have insurance to drive the vehicle in question.

The case called at Tameside Magistrates’ Court this week, where the 28-year-old avoided a disqualification for the offence which she admitted.

The reasons given included that she had recently started a new job which she would need three buses to get to.

The woman from Tottington Street in Manchester, was given a fine of £369.

The court took her guilty plea into account when determining he sentence.
