The following people from Oldham have been convicted of burglary this year and sentenced.

The crime is defined as entering a property with the intention to steal, and can take place against a business or at somebody’s home.

Factors which are deemed to make the crime more serious include the level of planning involved and whether there were others inside any given property at the time.

Lewis McDermott was sent to a young offender institute for six weeks after he entered the Kwik Fit on Landsdale Road in Oldham with the intent to steal.

The 21-year-old admitted the offence which took place in March this year.

At Tameside Magistrates’ Court he was also convicted of theft of £49 of items from Tesco.

The man, of no fixed abode, was given three weeks at the young offender institute for this, which will run alongside his other sentence.

Sara Elaouzi was placed on a community order for entering as a trespasser to a One Stop in Burnley and stealing vodka and cigarettes worth around £45.

The 19-year-old was convicted of the offence, which took place in April this year, at Tameside Magistrates’ Court.

The woman from Stockport Road in Ashton Under Lyne was placed on a curfew ordering her to remain at her home between 8pm and 8am for 12 weeks and complete 35 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

Alan Wild was jailed after he was found guilty of entering Chadderton Town Hall as a trespasser.

The offence took place in April 2019.

The 49-year-old, from Falkirk Street in Oldham, was jailed for 22 weeks at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court.

Gregg Ditchfield was jailed after he broke into Farmfoods before it opened to steal a leg of lamb.

The 37-year-old smashed the window during the incident in March this year as staff were waiting to open up.

The man, from Middleton Road in Shaw, admitted the offence a well four thefts from shops.

He took a total of £1,410 of items.

At Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court he was jailed for seven months.
