The rate of Covid in Oldham is more than double the national average – and the rate is still rising.

The latest figures from Public Health England show that there were 109 cases in the town today.

Over the last week there have been 635 positive tests in the area, which is a rise of 37.1 per cent.

Across the UK as a whole cases are rising at a faster rate of 44.8 per cent.

The rate of Covid per 100,000 people in Oldham stands at 229.4, compared to 100.8 for the UK as a whole.

There were no deaths in Oldham today which came within 28 days of a positive test for the virus.

Across the UK there were 21 fatalities today and the death rate is rising by 32.1 per cent.

The latest days also shows 137,608 people across the UK have had their first dose of the vaccine in Oldham, which is 71 per cent of the adult population.

Of these 102,275 have had their second dose to become fully vaccinated, which is 52.8 per cent of those eligible.

Across the UK 82.9 per cent of adults have had their first dose and 60.6 per cent have had their second, which means Oldham is lagging behind the national average on vaccinations.
