THE Cob and Coal, an unrivalled micro pub in Tommyfield Market, Albion Street, is our Pub of the Week.

It comes after the pub beat more than 2,000 members to win the CAMRA Rochdale, Oldham and Bury branch Pub of the Year 2021 award earlier this month.

Here landlady Michelle Riley answers our Q & A.

What is/ the landlord/landlady’s name? Michelle and Chris Riley.

Can you give us some history about the pub? We opened in August 2019.

What is the pub known for? Real ale.

Is food served and if so, what is on the menu? No, but customers are encouraged to get food from other market traders.

Is there a beer garden? There’s an inside and outside area.

What is the most popular drink served? Real ale.

What is your most memorable moment at the pub? Winning CAMRA pub of the year.

Do you have an entertainment line-up? We have a live act at 2:30pm every Saturday, which changes weekly. Dave Higginson is set for this Saturday, July 24.

Have you faced any challenges within the industry over the last year? Closures due to Covid-19 restrictions.

What is best thing about running the pub? The customers. The pub has such a loyal customer base.

What is the worst thing about running the pub? There isn’t anything.

What is you perfect hangover cure? A shandy.
