BUSINESS is booming again for Oldham Tuk Tuk now that legal limits on those celebrating at weddings and other events have come to an end.

Shozzad Miah, who has been running Oldham Tuk Tuk since 2018, said that although lockdown saw several bookings postponed “business is picking up”.

He added: “Now it’s wedding season and it’s really nice after a year and a half or so to get back to normal life.”

Shozzad originally got the Tuk Tuk for himself before the suggestions to hire it out for weddings and other events birthdays, came flooding in. He bought it in January of 2018 and by February he had his first wedding booking.

Since then, the Tuk Tuk and cycle rickshaw have ferried countless brides and grooms to weddings and appeared at proms, hen nights, birthdays, Christmas parties, charity and business events, mehndis, and even music videos.

Earlier this year the Tuk Tuk also followed champion charity fundraiser, and relative of Shozzad, Afruz Miah on a 331-kilometre charity run from Oldham to London during Ramadan.

Shozzad, who also works as a telecom engineer, currently has one yellow Tuk Tuk emblazoned with red flowers, which can hold three passengers and has sound, lights and a floral roof.

He also has a cycle rickshaw, which proves popular for weddings, and a floral swing which can be hired out for events.

Speaking about his distinctive Tuk Tuk he said: “It reminds some people of home and for others it reminds them of when they have been to Pakistan, India or even Thailand.

“It’s unique and eye-catching and when you leave it parked on the road everybody looks at it, beeps at you and takes pictures because it’s something you hardly ever see in the UK, it’s a good head turner.

He added: “When people see it puts a smile on their face and a smile on mine.”

During busy periods Shozzad has two friends, Abu Bokkor, and Imran Khan, who help him cover events which can be as far away as Birmingham, Leeds, or London.

Shozzad is planning to expand his business to meet demand and increase the size of his Tuk Tuk and rickshaw fleet.

The Tuk Tuk is available now for any occasion and can be decorated according to customer preferences.
