CORONATION Street’s Sam Aston stepped away from the cobbles for a few hours to sample some treats at one of the region’s biggest food festivals.

The Lancashire-born actor attended the Bolton Food and Drink Festival with fellow actress Dolly-Rose Campbell, who plays his on-screen partner Gemma Winter.

A world away from Roy’s Rolls and the Rovers Return, the pair met with the Mayor of Bolton Linda Thomas and attended a cooking demonstration.

Dolly-Rose and Sam, who lives in Rawtenstall with his wife Briony, were excited to sample a range of foods at the festival, which is taking place over the bank holiday weekend.

The pair stopped by before returning to the studio to do some filming later in the day.

Referencing his character, who has five children, a boy and quadruplets, Sam said: "We’re always up for a bit of food and drink, we’ve got five kids so we’re always skint – hopefully we can get a few freebies. I’m not too fussy.

“It’s our first time here and obviously it’s a yearly thing it would be nice to come back again and see other parts of it.

“I think we’ll be in a food coma later on.

“We don’t get too much of a chance to do things like this and I think recently with the times, everything that’s been going on – there’s not been much stuff like this happening – so it’s nice.”

Dolly added: “We’re here just for a few hours today as we’ve got to go to work later for some filming.

“It’s really exciting to be here today.

“I’m sure it’s going to be amazing.”

Asked whether Weatherfield should have its own food and drink festival, Dolly-Rose responded: “Have we ever had a food festival? I don’t think we have. We had a Christmas market.”

Sam added: “Well it would be the Rovers Return, the Bistro, and we’ve Speed Daal, and I work in a kebab shop.

“Roy’s Rolls too, so maybe there’s enough options.

“I think Betty’s hotpot would be in the top ten definitely.”
