The following people from Oldham have been before the courts recently for driving under the influence of cannabis.

Under UK law someone found guilty of this offence must be banned from the roads for at least a period or a year.

If someone has two or more previous convictions for the same offence then it must be a two year disqualification.

Mohammed Adeel admitted he was under the influence of cannabis when driving a Toyota Yaris on East Ordall Lane in Manchester in December last year.

At Tameside Magistrates’ Court in August the 36-year-old was banned from the roads for a year.

The man from Coppice Street in Oldham was also fined £400.

Asif Munir admitted he had taken the drug before he got behind the wheel of an Audi A3 on Balfour Street in Oldham in December last year.

At Tameside Magistrates’ Court in August the 43-year-old was banned from the roads for a year.

The man from Grendon Avenue in Oldham was also hit with a fine of £120.

Damien Skelly was jailed for a string of offences which included driving under the influence of cannabis.

At Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court in August the man from Edward Street in Oldham admitted he drove a Volkswagen Golf on Acres Lane in Stalybridge while disqualified and without insurance.

The 26-year-old was under the influence of cannabis at the time.

He was jailed for six weeks because of his poor record of previous offending.

He was also banned from the roads for a year.

Joseph Edwards admitted he drove while banned, without insurance and under the influence of cannabis and cocaine at Tameside Magistrates’ Court in August.

The 28-year-old carried out the four offences when driving a Vauxhall Corsa in January this year on Oldham Road in Denshaw.

The man from Stevenson Drive in Oldham was given a sentence of 16 weeks which was suspended for 24 months.

Edwards was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work in the next year and attend at 19 days of the Thinking Skills Programme.

He was also banned from driving for 36 months.
