A FOOTBALL club venue has made an application to serve customers at its VIP bar and outside trailer.

The Vestacare Stadium on Whitebank Road in Limeside, where AVRO JFC play their games, has lodged a variation of premises licence application to the council.

The premises has agreed to follow a number of conditions after being consulted by the licensing service and environmental health but several objections have been made against the application.

Hollinwood councillor Jean Stretton said: "I am objecting on behalf of a number of residents of the section of Whitebank Road that directly faces the AVRO stadium site.

"Representatives of the club have previously advised me that there were just three households on this stretch of road that had issues with the club.

"I have had complaints about a wide range of issues from residents but not all of these issues are relevant to the current licensing application.

"It is important to note that the concerns are not just speculative. They are based on residents’ experiences of the club operating Macie’s and the pitch side bar, which I believe AVRO refer to as the VIP Bar under a series of temporary event notices.

"Many of these have been at weekends, which has allowed residents to experience what life would be like for them if a full license is granted that allowed the use of Macie’s and the pitch side bar."

Among the concerns raised, Cllr Stretton said it is feared that shouting and foul language will get worse and carry on for longer, especially at weekends, if the licence is granted.

One resident raised concerns over anti-social behaviour and people urinating behind the concrete fence in view of the public.

He said the car park is often used as a "test track" with people speeding on it and foul language is heard.

The man added: "If the bar is granted a variation then the level of noise, intrusion, loss of privacy and sleep deprivation would increase to an unbelievable level."

Other similar objections have been made to the plans.

The application is set to be discussed by Oldham Council's licensing panel tomorrow, Friday, before a decision is made on whether it will be approved.
