A NIGHTCLUB in Oldham has made a u-turn on its decision to host an appearance from the highly controversial ‘Godfather of Grime’.

Wiley, whose real name is Richard Kylea Cowie Jr, was set to perform at Liquid on Bank Holiday Monday, two days after Christmas.

The nightclub on Retiro Street made the announcement in a post on social media at the start of last week, despite the fact the 42-year-old rapper is facing charges of assault by beating and burglary with intent to cause criminal damage at an East London flat.

But Liquid deleted the post the following day, and on Wednesday a spokesperson for the nightclub confirmed the appearance is no longer going ahead.

They said: “We have liaised with the promoter of this event and can confirm that while rapper Wiley is facing criminal charges we will not be hosting him at our venue.”

On Monday, an arrest warrant was issued after Wiley, who has an MBE for services to music, failed to turn up at Thames Magistrates’ Court for a hearing.

He has not made a plea to the charges of assault by beating and burglary with intent to cause criminal damage.
