A BOXING gym is celebrating after placing another award in its cabinet.
In June, it was announced that Oldham Boxing and Personal Development Centre on Greaves Street won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
Former Oldham mayor, Cllr Ginny Alexander, had nominated the Greaves Street gym for the prize.
And now representatives from the club have attended Gorton Monastery to officially receive the prestigious accolade.
Head coach and director Eric Noi picked up the award from the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Sir Warren Smith
Eric said: "It’s great to see all our hard work being recognised and we’d like to thank Ginny for nominating us.
"It was humbling to be surrounded by so many other deserving recipients, including Oldham Street Angels, who we work closely with.
"The last 18 months have been hard for everyone but I’d like to think organisations like ours are making a difference.
"Volunteers are the backbone of our communities and I’m pleased to say we’ll be carrying on our good work so we can continue to help others."
While boxing attracts many of its members, the club helps people grow in confidence and gain self worth and self belief.
