THESE dramatic photos show the moment a road sweeper was consumed in flames on a road in Oldham over the weekend.

Firefighters from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) were called to Huddersfield Road at around 6.55am on Sunday, October 10.

Two fire engines from Chadderton and Mossley attended the scene to find a road sweeper on fire at the side of the main road towards Saddleworth.

They spent around three hours tackling the blaze and making the scene safe.

In a statement, a spokesperson for GMFRS said: "At approximately 6.55am on Sunday, October 10, two fire engines from Chadderton and Mossley stations attended an incident on Huddersfield Road in Oldham. The fire involved a road sweeper on a roadway.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reels to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for around three hours."
