MORE than 170 new coronavirus cases have been found in Oldham with the infection rate on the rise.

Government data has shown there have been 174 Covid-19 cases in the borough recorded in the last 24 hours.

Overall, 40,142 cases have been recorded in Oldham since the start of the pandemic.

Across the UK, a total of 136 deaths linked to the virus have been reported.

There were 42,776 cases recorded in Britain.

The infection rate in the borough has increased.

The rate per 100,000 people in the borough who produced a positive test up in the seven days up to October 8 was 344.7 – but still less than the UK average of 372.6.

A total of 819 cases were logged in the seven days up to that date.
