RESIDENTS received quite the shock on Saturday afternoon when five cows appeared on a residential street in Sholver.

The cows were seen in plain sight on a patch of grass on Coleridge Road, just where it meets Ripponden Road.

People in the area were shocked by the sight and confused as to where the animals came from as they appeared to be munching away at the new-found grass.

Many stopped to look twice at the cows who were clearly enjoying the new space.

Even for cows, the grass can sometimes seem greener.

Lauren Maher described how she had been walking her dog with her partner at about 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon when they stumbled across the scene.

She said herself and her partner had “no idea” where the cows had come from or how they had managed to get to the patch of grass on Coleridge Road.

It is understood that there are a couple of nearby farms which the cows could quite possibly have come from.

Ms Maher said another bystander had claimed that “a lot of the grass had died” at one of the farms, which could have possibly forced the cows to search for new grass to graze on.

She said one man pointed out “the grass is always greener” somewhere else.

Residents were left puzzled by the cows impromtu visit.

Police were reportedly called to the incident and have been contacted for a response, however they said they were unable to comment at this moment.

Ms Maher also said that when she returned several hours later, the cows were nowhere to be seen, meaning they may well have returned home.

Pictures show baffled residents observing the cows as they nonchalantly ate the grass against a backdrop of suburban houses and cars.
