An inquest has been opened into the death of a retired prison officer who died at Royal Oldham Hospital after using amphetamines.

Russell Hilton, 51 at the time of his death, reported abdominal pain and was admitted in A&E at Royal Oldham Hospital.

Whilst there, he admitted to using amphetamines that morning and would die of a cardiac arrest on November 13.

His body was identified by his sister.

Mr Hilton, of Church Street, Littleborough, got married around 30 years ago, although it is unknown if he was married at the time of his death or who his wife was.

Assistant coroner Michael Salt said that due to the involvement of amphetamines, there was sufficient reason for a full inquest to be held.

The inquest will take place in May next year.
