MEMBERS of Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Oldham braved the cold and rainy weather on Saturday to help plant trees in Stockport with the help of City of Trees Manchester.
The event, organised by the City of Trees Manchester, was part of the initiative Queens Green Canopy, a UK wide tree planting project to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
Greater Manchester has a target to plant three million trees and become carbon neutral by 2038.
The newly elected local leader for Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Oldham, Zaki Ullah said: “I was delighted to be part of the event which provided us the opportunity to put our efforts towards protecting our environment.”
He added: “Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Oldham are always ready to help our local community and I as local leader will ensure that we gear up our community services around this festive time.”
The event was attended by the mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham who praised volunteers for braving the weather to help make Greater Manchester greener.
