An OLDHAM resident has hit out at a house builder for abandoning a Failsworth development where roads are unfinished, rats are coming out of blocked drains, and ambulances are getting lost.

Kenny Bowen, who moved into Lancaster Gardens with his family in 2019, claims Bellway Homes has failed for three years to finish the development, forcing residents to put up with “dangerous conditions”.

Kenny, who owns Clear Line Drains, said: “We’re living on a scruffy building site it’s a disgrace. There are no streetlights and no street signs. We have had to tell ambulances where to go.

“We were sold a ‘forever home’ what we weren’t told is that it would take forever to tarmac the footpaths and roadways.

“Curbs are missing, and people have clipped their cars and had to get new tyres. Trees that have been planted have died and one has been blown down by the wind. There are also raised iron works and manholes.”

Kenny has been forced to tarmac some of the potholes himself after allegedly being told “lie after lie” by Bellway Homes over when work to finish the development would begin.

The homeowner has also resorted to putting up a sign and helium balloons as part of a campaign to shame Bellway Homes into action.

The sign reads: “Liars #scruffy Bellway.”

Kenny said: “Rats are coming out of the drains which are full of muck, blocked and flooding. They are coming from the sewer; I know a lot about drains because I own my own drain company.

“My cat sits next to the grid because it knows it’s going to get a full meal."

He added: “Belway Homes promote themselves as a five-star builders, but they have left us in third world conditions.

“We don’t want five-star holidays or Pizza Hut for life we just want our estate finished.”

“We need to let people know just how bad Bellway are before they buy into this nightmare like us.”

The Oldham Times:

Roads on the estate have been left unfinished for three years.

In a statement addressing the claims the company said: "Bellway apologises for the delays in completing the finishing works at Lancaster Gardens which have been caused by ongoing issues with contractors and changes in requirements for the finishing, requested by Oldham Council.

"Works are ongoing in completing the final road and footpath resurfacing on the development with parts now completed. We are working with our appointed contractors on a completion programme to address all outstanding works, and we will communicate this with residents once it is finalised."
