AN online jewellery and accessories business based in Oldham is readying itself to take over the jewellery industry amid booming sales.

Since launching mid-pandemic in September 2020, Glamourize Luxury & Glamour has gained customers from across the globe including America and has plans to rent a store at the Trafford Centre.

Sarah Hussain, who moved from Halifax to Oldham two years ago, launched the business after her experience of pre-natal depression in lockdown led her to rediscover her passion for jewellery.

She said: “When the first lockdown hit in March 2020, I was pregnant and working from home as an SEN teaching assistant but there wasn’t a lot for me to do other than online training, so I had a lot of time on my hands.

“I was isolated from the world, including family and friends, and ended up getting prenatal depression and it really took a toll on me.

“In the peak of the pandemic I also lost my grandparents, who raised me and I felt like I had lost everything at that point.

“My partner said he wanted to give me a focus, something to achieve, and a purpose to live for.

“It was then that I came to the realisation that maybe I do have a passion in life, I love jewellery and I would love to sell jewellery.”

Glamourize Luxury & Glamour specialises in cubic zirconia jewellery, a diamond alternative with many of the same qualities as a diamond.

Discussing the business’s future, Sarah said: “The aim of the business is to supply our customers with high-quality, high-end designs at a very affordable price and we’ve found a gap in the market.

“We are going to be the Boohoo, the Primark, the PrettyLittleThing of the jewellery industry.”

Reflecting on her decision to open a jewellery store, Sarah said: “When I was a young girl, I didn’t have any toys or dolls and I used to go into my nan’s room, go to her dressing table, get her jewellery box out and start wearing her jewellery and dressing up.

“That’s where my drive came from because those were the some of the happiest moments and memories from my nan’s house.”

Sarah hopes to become a role model for other women in the South Asian community.

She said: “In the South Asian community women are taught you’re going to grow up, you’re going to find a husband and you’re going to get married and that is your life, but there are so many opportunities for girls.

“I want them to see my business and know that there’s something waiting for them and there’s more to life than just getting married.”

She added: “We need more role models. Growing up in Halifax I didn’t have any female role models to look up to. It wasn’t until I moved to Oldham that I saw women are taking charge like.

“When you hear about other successful women it makes you want to be a part of that.”
