A JUNCTION in Chadderton which has been reported over its safety is set to be improved after a funding boost.

A mini roundabout which connects Coalshaw Green Road, Wash Brook, Butler Green and Stanley Road has been a concern among residents for some time.

The problem has to Chadderton South councillors Chris Goodwin, council leader Arooj Shah and Graham Shuttleworth.

And now, £250,000 from the council's Transport Capital Programme will be used to carry out work, starting in the coming months, to replace the roundabout with a four-arm junction, including pedestrian facilities.

Oldham Council deputy leader and cabinet member for neighbourhoods, Cllr Amanda Chadderton, said: “The safety of pedestrians and all road users is a priority for the council, which is why we are always looking to improve our highways network.

“There have been issues at this junction for some time, which is why we have acted in a bid to reduce the risk of collisions and accidents.

“Ward councillors have worked hard to secure a £250,000 investment from this year’s Transport Capital Programme to carry out the improvements.

“Work is due to start in the spring and once it’s complete we’ll have a junction that is better and safer for everyone."
