IAN Evatt hopes Saturday’s blueprint for victory against Ipswich can be the start of a new trend at Wanderers.
For only the fifth time in 24 games this season, Bolton scored first, as Kieran Lee and then Dapo Afolayan secured an important three points.
Lee’s 74th minute strike also came at a time when the visitors were looking the most threatening.
“When you play against these high quality teams like Ipswich, they have got some fantastic players and have recruited really heavily, those types of games are going to ebb and flow,” he said.
“You are going to have to weather storms, see things out, and then take the opportunities when you get them.
“First half we had opportunities again and it would have been easy for the players to lose focus and to lose confidence, but the start of the second half, unlike Wycombe or other games, we were more compact, we were more solid, we gave them very few opportunities.
“We grew back into the half and when we got our opportunities, we took them.”
Evatt was also delighted with the build-up to the first goal, which stoked up a good atmosphere at the UniBol.
“It was really well worked,” he said. “The stadium came alive again and I must say our fans were absolutely outstanding in backing the players.
“I thought the way they supported the team was fantastic and first class and that helps everybody when we’re all together like that. It helps you get results against really good teams.”
