First Manchester bus drivers took strike action once again today as they continue their dispute with the company over pay and conditions.

The strikes have left dozens of bus routes affected, including many school buses.

The drivers took action on Monday and Tuesday last week and will be on strike again on Thursday.

The employees, who are members of the trade union Unite the Union, were on the picket line outside First's depot on Wallshaw Street, Oldham.

Sharon Graham, general secretary for Unite the Union said: "Our members have been hailed as heroes for working throughout pandemic but that praise feels decidedly hollow when First Manchester is refusing to make our members a reasonable pay offer."

The drivers are striking as they seek a pay rise from £12.40 to £13 after First refused to backdate a pay increase to August 2021, when the annual pay increase was originally due.

As things stand, there are also strikes lined up for Monday and Wednesday next week.

Unite regional officer Dave Roberts said: "Our members are taking strike action as a last resort.

"The ball is now firmly in First Manchester’s court."
