An appeal for information has been made by police after an attempted robbery on an elderly woman took place in Ashton over the weekend.

Police were called shortly before 5pm on Saturday, January 15 to reports of a robbery earlier that day at around 2.30pm on Lordsfield Avenue.

Officers have said an elderly woman in her late 70s was walking with her daughter when a man grabbed her neck from behind.

It is understood the offender threw her to the floor and attempted to grab her handbag, before dragging her along the ground, causing injuries including cuts and bruising to her face, neck, and legs.

The woman's daughter managed to push the offender away before he fled the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses and no arrests have been made so far.
