A PRECIOUS ceremonial military plaque belonging to the family of a serviceman who died 15 years ago has been stolen in a heartless burglary in Rochdale.

Police believe burglars broke into MCC at Fieldhouse Industrial Estate at around 4.30pm on December 2 last year.

A Household Cavalry helmet insignia, which belonged to George Coxon and was mounted on a commemorative plaque, was taken after the burglary.

George served with the regiment from 1951 to 1964 and rode in the Queen's Coronation in 1953.

He died aged 80 in 2007.

Family Christmas presents and a laptop were also stolen and damage was caused throughout the building.

George's daughter Beki Coxon, who runs the company with partner Mark Matthews, said: "The plaque is hugely sentimental to our family and dad was very proud of it.

"Dad was Corporal of Horse in the Blues and Royals division of the Household Cavalry and wore the helmet for the Queen's Coronation – we would dearly like to get the plaque back.

"It was presented to him before I was born and has hung on the wall for as long as I can remember so we would dearly like to get it back."
