A charity art auction for Britain's largest children's hospital is being supported by Saddleworth artists.

During the pandemic, Liverpool’s Alder Hey hospital charity had to cancel many fundraising events and look for new ways of raising money.

Its Brighter Futures exhibition and online auction are raising money for the new mental health unit currently being built at the hospital which supports children from all over the North West.

Eileen Jones, vice chair of the charity who lives in Springhead, said: "The hospital has seen a big increase in children needing mental health services.

“The hospital is bringing these services together in two units which will care for in and outpatients.

"Local artists, particularly the Saddleworth Group of Artists, have been incredibly generous in supporting the appeal.

"We are very grateful to them and hope the auction will bring in much-needed funds towards the appeal."

The exhibition has been on display at Liverpool's Maritime Museum and online via the Adam Partridge auction website.

Mr Partridge, the celebrity auctioneer, joined the organising committee and donated his company's services hosting and cataloguing the auction free of charge.

Yoko Ono, who has been connected with the charity for many years, donated a piece of art along with a number of Liverpool celebrities.
