The operators of Oldham's Liquid & Envy, on Retiro Street, have been hailed Best Late-Night Operator of the Year in prestigious national industry awards.

Rekom UK, the company which operates the club, was recognised by The Publican Awards – the biggest event in the hospitality industry calendar – for outstanding work in the face of Covid, which hit the sector.

With 47 venues across England, Wales and Scotland, the company is the UK’s largest specialist operator of late-night bars and clubs – owning popular national chain club brands Pryzm and Atik, amongst others.

Rekom UK chairman Peter Marks said: “We’re proud to win Best Late-Night Operator of the Year after what has been a very challenging time which has tested our resilience.

“The award is a significant achievement and recognises the fantastic efforts of our club teams who have bounced back from lockdown to deliver great, memorable nights out.

“The late-night sector is an important part of Oldham’s economy, and we intend to continue to invest and grow our business to help local centres recover from the impact of the pandemic.”

With over 2,500 employees, the company said its investment in its people and premium estate, a focus on entertainment, quality drinks and light and sound technology had contributed to its award success.

In addition, the company’s ‘We Care’ initiative – which aims to support the welfare of clubbers through a team of customer care ambassadors to support vulnerable clubbers, free mobile phone charging points, a taxi escort service and refuge areas, was also thought to have contributed to winning the award.

Rekom bought nightclub operator Deltic Group out of administration in 2020, leaving Peter Marks in charge as the head of the UK operations.
