Outdoor exercise equipment has been popping up in Oldham parks in recent months as part of the regeneration of the borough's green spaces.

Both Arundel Street Park and Waterhead Park have the pieces of equipment, which include a stationary bike, an elliptical machine and upper body machines.

The equipment has been provided thanks to a collaboration between Oldham Council, Big Local Oldham and the National Lottery Fund.

It has been installed to offer residents the opportunity to get exercise for free while in a green area.

Mohammed Wasim Iqbal, a member of Clarksfield Community Group, said the gym equipment has helped to revitalise Arundel Street Park.

He said: "The park was derelict until a few years ago and over a number of years, we had to secure funding to get that park used.

"It is another step in the regeneration of the park and is being used by lots of people, including children and the elderly."

Mr Iqbal added that dozens of people were using it every day and although it had taken "a lot of hard work" to secure the facilities, they were a "wonderful" addition.
