The owners of a club in Oldham this week suggested their sector is back in full force – with revellers' appetite for nights out as strong as it ever was.

A report by Rekom UK, the owners of 48 bars and clubs including Liquid on Retiro Street, showed people are going out as often as pre-pandemic, and are spending around the same in the process.

In a survey of 2,358 people over the age of 18 in March 2022, revellers reported an average of 1.2 nights out per week, the same as three years earlier.

They also reported spending an average of around £68 on these nights out, only pennies short of pre-pandemic.

Among those between the ages of 18 and 24, it was apparent some felt restrictions on bars and clubs were excessive, with around 50 per cent saying the closures were unfair, and 80 per cent saying they are now more enthusiastic to attend the venues which were closed.

They also said spending time with their friends was the most important reason for nights out, followed by relieving stress and by sharing experiences.

Peter Marks, Rekom UK’s chairman, said: "We’re so pleased to be welcoming guests back to our venues and returning to what we do best.

"It's fantastic to see such positive public perception around going out, something that's reflected by the strong business performance we've seen over the past few months.

"There’s no doubt that the late-night leisure sector is back in full force and people are ready to enjoy themselves."
