MEMBERS of Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth (AMYA) Oldham have donated food to Oldham Foodbank.
The initiative was part of the holy month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar when Muslims are encouraged to engage in dawn-to-dusk fasting for the month.
AMYA representative Afzaal Ahmed said: “One of objectives of fasting is to help people less fortunate in the community.
“The holy month of Ramadan instils values like sacrifice and generosity.
Following those values Ahmadi Muslims collected money in the community and bought food which is being donated to Oldham Foodbank to help those less fortunate in the community."
In the year to March, 14,663 emergency food parcels were handed out to people in Oldham, almost double the number of parcels compared with before the pandemic, according to figures by the Trussell Trust charity which supports Oldham Foodbank.
Anyone wanting to donate to Oldham Foodbank can take donations to Unit B at the Prince of Wales Business Park, Vulcan Street, Oldham, on Monday-Friday between 9am and 3pm.
