An exhibition is coming to Oldham, celebrating some of the best nature photographs taken over the past decade.

Gallery Oldham’s latest exhibition is the 10 Years of the British Wildlife Photography Awards and is open to the public.

It includes all the winners from the British Wildlife Photography Awards over the past decade, as well as a selection of commended images.

The awards were founded in 2009 and celebrate some of the most unique, stunning and funny pictures taken throughout Britain.

Sayyed Osman, deputy chief executive of Oldham Council, said: "I’m delighted Gallery Oldham is hosting such a prestigious exhibition.

"There are some stunning photos on display and I’d urge everyone to go along and have a look."

The awards were created to celebrate the talents of both amateur and professional photographers, while also highlighting the great wealth and diversity of British natural history.

The awards also help to raise awareness about biodiversity, species and habitats and help conserve the UK's natural heritage.

The competition welcomes photographers from all over the UK and they have created a unique collection of photographs showcasing the best of British wildlife.

Miranda Krestovnikoff, president of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), said: "We are lucky to have some of the most talented wildlife photographers in the world here in the UK.

"As well as showcasing their own work, their photographs highlight the natural history we are blessed with and bring it to the attention of the nation."

The exhibition opens to the public on Saturday, May 28 and will run until Saturday, September 3.

It features as part of the Manchester Histories Festival, which explores the history of climate change as well as celebrating the rich history and heritage of Greater Manchester.
