Failsworth and Ashton MP Angela Rayner appeared on Loose Women this (May 26) afternoon.

The MP came on the show at 1pm and spoke to panellists Kaye Adams, Nadia Sawalha, Linda Robson and Jane Moore.

The conversation started with the topic of Rayner’s ‘potty mouthed’ teenagers – with the Deputy Labour Leader stressing that while she has heard them swear to each other, they do not swear in front of her.

The debate then moved on to ‘partygate’ and ‘beergate’ – with Angela Rayner saying Boris Johnson had “been proven to be a liar” in the wake of Sue Gray’s report on the matter.

The MP said: “Boris Johnson says he didn’t know about it for months and months. If I was told that there were parties going on in my office for months, I’d be asking my team ‘did you have a party, and what the hell was going on?’ – I wouldn’t need the police to investigate it.”

In response to accusations of dishonesty over her presence at an event which has been dubbed ‘beergate,’ the Failsworth MP stressed she had always been open about being present and suggestions she was not there had come from a Labour staffer.

The MP repeated her commitment to resign if she is issued a Fixed Penalty Notice over the matter.

Panellist Kaye Adams went on to say there are similarities between Boris Johnson and Angela Rayner – explaining that both are ‘charismatic’ and were ‘brought up in difficult family circumstances, with mums with mental health issues.’

The panel then went on to discuss the cost-of-living crisis.

The MP explained that there was more support available when she was a young mum at 16, adding that it ‘breaks her heart’ to see the ‘humiliation’ of having to ask for food at a food bank.

The MP added: “There are little old ladies and little old geezers now that are going to be in their houses freezing cold because they’re worried sick about paying their energy bill.”
