The family who own an Oldham pub have confirmed they are leaving after almost a decade.

The Park Inn, based on Buckstones Road in Shaw, has been owned and run by nurse Julia Wood and her family since March 2013.

However, the Woods have passed on ownership, citing struggles to recover from the pandemic as the reason for moving on.

Molly Wood, daughter of owner Julia and social media manager, said: "It's been difficult recovering after lockdown."

She said it had been particularly tough on her mum, who also works as a nurse, working more than 40 hours a week while also doing shifts in the pub's kitchen.

Molly said: "It's a lot for her to do."

In a social media post, the Woods confirmed they would be serving food until Sunday, June 5 and would be having a leaving party on Saturday, June 11.

They added the final quiz night will take place on June 9.

The pub will close on June 14 before the new owners reopen the following day on June 15.

Molly admitted it would be difficult to say goodbye to a place which had been a big part of the family's lives.

She said: "I'm 24 so I was 15 when we took over, it's been my life for nine years.

"I've grown up with the pub, we know all the regulars and locals.

"It's going to be quite sad but it's the right time."

In the social media post, the Woods thanked all the staff and customers over the past nine years and said they hoped to see everyone in the coming weeks.

Dozens of comments were left, with many saying they were sorry to hear the family was moving on but wished them the best of luck.
