A MANHUNT is ongoing after a second stabbing in Oldham in the space of a weekend.

The emergency services were called to Minton Street in Glodwick at around 1.35pm on Sunday.

A man was taken to hospital with minor wounds which are not believed to be serious and a scene was put in place, with photos sent to The Oldham Times showing a number of police cars on Waterloo Street.

The stabbing is thought to be targeted and attempts to locate the offender are ongoing.

Separately, in the early hours of Saturday, a man in his 40s died after he was stabbed on Union Street.

A man in his 30s from Rochdale was arrested on suspicion of murder overnight in Ipswich, Suffolk.

Police have since introduced additional stop and search powers in Glodwick and in the town centre.

Detective Superintendent Kate Atton, of GMP Oldham, said: “We have seen such a shocking and serious act of violence this weekend that has involved the use of a knife on the streets of Oldham and this will not be tolerated.

“While an investigation continues at pace to understand the circumstances behind it – and the person responsible - we are also determined to doing whatever’s in our power to prevent any further such incidents taking place in our town.

“That is why heightened stop and search powers have been introduced in the Glodwick area and the town centre to allow officers to prevent anyone found carrying weapons to be free to walk our streets.”

Anyone with information on either incident is asked to contact police on 101, or to use the LiveChat on gmp.police.uk.
