A GP in Werneth has had an inspection from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Danson Family Practice, located in Werneth Primary Care Centre on Featherstall Road South, has received a ‘good’ rating in its latest CQC inspection.

The inspection, which took place on May 20, is documented in a report published on Friday, June 10.

Inspectors found the service to be ‘good’ in all areas – saying it was safe, effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs, and well-led.

The CQC, the regulator of health and social care in England, has four possible ratings for the services it inspects: Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement, and Inadequate.

The practice missed out on the ‘outstanding’ rating.

While inspectors found no breaches of regulations, they said the GP should implement a formal system to recall patients who need regular blood tests – with the current system meaning some patients were overdue for a test.

However, inspectors also identified areas of outstanding practice – with telephone consultations held outside of normal opening hours, during the weekends, and on bank holidays, as well as being mindful of deprivation and language barriers in their work.

According to the 2021 NHS GP Patient Survey, the practice performs above the nationwide average in some areas – with 58 per cent of respondents saying they usually get to see or speak to their preferred GP when they would like to, compared to 45 per cent nationwide.

However, the practice was below average in some other areas – with just 82 per cent of respondents saying they felt their needs were met during their last appointment, compared to a 94 per cent national average.
