An arrest has been made after a man was attacked in a nature reserve in Middleton.

Police say that the man was attacked at Alkrington Woods on Friday, June 17 at around 9.30pm.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

But officers say that their investigation into the attack is still ongoing and that they still want witnesses to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Tim O’Callaghan said: “Though a male is in custody, our investigation is far from over.

“Enquiries have so far led us to believe that there were two young people in the area at the time of the incident, we believe they are approximately 14-years-old.

“I appeal directly to those witnesses or anyone else with information to contact us or Crimestoppers.”

As yet officers have not released further details about the nature of the attack or if anyone else is being sought in connection with the incident.

Officers say that anyone with any information should contact DS O’Callaghan or DS Parvez via 0161 856 8576 or 4668 quoting 1,060 of June 22.

Alternative, information can also be shared anonymously via independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
