GMP and Greater Manchester Fire Rescue Service (GMFRS) recovered a moped that had been set on fire and abandoned in Lees.

Greater Manchester’s emergency services were called to put out a moped that had been set on fire and abandoned by a path on Sunday, July 3.

The moped had been left on fire near the bridle path in Lees.

Greater Manchester Police suspect the bike was stolen before it was set alight.

Photographs posted online by GMP Saddleworth and Lees show the moped in a deteriorated state with loose wires hanging out where the headlight would normally be.

A police car and a fire engine attended the scene to contain the fire and to confiscate the bike.

In a post online, GMP Saddleworth and Lees said: “A moped has been recovered by the Saddleworth team today, suspected stolen, after it was set on fire near the bridle path in Lees.

“Enquiries are ongoing”.
