Deputy leader of the Labour Party and Oldham MP Angela Rayner has said "the public have had enough" of the government in the House of Commons.

Labour was granted an urgent question in the Commons on Tuesday (July 5) regarding the row surrounding Chris Pincher.

The Conservative MP resigned as deputy chief whip on June 30 following allegations he had groped two men after drinking.

Now, it has been revealed the Prime Minister was made aware of Mr Pincher's previous inappropriate behaviour in 2019, with Downing Street saying he forgot.

Labour's urgent question saw Ms Rayner, who represents Ashton and Failsworth, ask if the government could make a statement on the mechanisms for upholding standards in public life.

Ms Rayner said: "This constant charade just will not wash.

"These latest disturbing allegations about ministerial misconduct are all about abuse of power.

"There is one common fault with the system that the Minister spoke about, and that is the power that is granted by this Prime Minister."

She added that since the resignation of the Prime Minister’s ethics adviser last month, there was an ethical vacuum in Downing Street "with no accountability in place".

She concluded by saying the PM was either negligent or complicit.

Responding on behalf of the government, Paymaster General and minister of the Cabinet Office, said Mr Pincher's actions were under investigation and a police investigation could take place.
