Headstones at a cemetery in Tameside have been subject to attacks on two separate occasions in the last two weeks.

A number of headstones at Dukinfield Cemetery and Crematorium were damaged overnight on two separate evenings and are likely to bring distress to loved ones who visit the cemetery, the police have said.

One attack took place on Thursday, June 23 while the second took place the following evening, Friday, June 24.

GMP Tameside North and East is now appealing for witnesses and information in relation to the destruction caused.

In a post on Facebook, the police said: “This is a despicable crime that will cause much distress to families of the loved ones laid to rest at the cemetery.”

The force is asking locals in the area to check dash cam footage or any mobile phone footage that might assist with their investigation.

GMP Tameside added: “We intend to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
