A major incident has been declared by Greater Manchester Police following the discovery of human remains in an Oldham mill.

The investigation continues at the site of Bismark House Mill on Bower Street, with reports of four missing Vietnamese nationals.

  • On Saturday, May 7, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended a fire at Bismark House Mill which took four days to put out.

  • At this time it was not believed that anyone was inside the mill and firefighters did not enter the building due to the size of the blaze and fears over the building's safety.
  • On Thursday (July 21) GMP received a report that four Vietnamese nationals were missing and may have been involved in a fire.

  • In a statement in response to the incident, Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, who oversees the fire service and the police in his roles as Fire Commissioner and Police and Crime Commissioner for the region, said investigators would leave 'no stone unturned' to find the truth.
  • Oldham Council leader Amanda Chadderton also said in a statement today (Tuesday) that the local authority was 'working closely' with emergency services and urged anyone with information to come forward. 
  • On Thursday, July 27 police confirmed that a second victim's remains had been found at the site.
