The victim of a fatal crash in Gorton earlier this month has been confirmed as a young man understood to be from Oldham.

Danyaal Ul-Haq is understood to have been the front seat passenger of a blue Range Rover which crashed into a telephone mast on Hyde Road on July 12.

Police were called shortly after 2.50am and despite the efforts of paramedics, the 23-year-old was confirmed to have died at the scene.

A spokesperson for Manchester Coroner's Court confirmed the court was aware of Mr Ul-Haq's death and that the coroner had been provided with a provisional file from Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

No opening date for an inquest has been set.

Mr Ul-Haq's funeral was held at the Pakistani Community Centre in Glodwick, Oldham on Friday, July 15.

His death was met with an outpouring of condolences on social media from people.

Since the deadly crash, two arrests have been made.

A 23-year-old woman was initially arrested on July 12 on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Following this arrest a 26-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice.

He has since been released on bail.

GMP was contacted for an update on the woman's status and whether there had been further arrests.

The crash also saw two other men injured, with one having serious but not life-threatening injuries, while the other only suffered minor injuries.

Sergeant Andrew Page, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit previously described the crash as a "devastating incident" and offered condolences to the family.

He also said the GMP investigation would leave no stone unturned as they tried to establish what happened.
