Police are looking for information after a woman suffered two fractures to her cheekbone in an 'unprovoked attack'.

The woman, aged 32, was walking home along Market Street in Stalybridge towards Melbourne Street on Sunday, 10 July, when a female launched an unprovoked attack at around 3am.

As the victim was approaching the Cosmo Bingo building, she came close to a group of people who were stood on the pavement.

Then it is alleged a female from the group struck the victim in the face in an unprovoked attack, causing two fractures to her cheekbone.

The victim was then treated at Tameside Hospital before a report to the police was made this week.

GMP is now appealing for more information to help locate the offender, who is described as a white female in her mid-20s with dark hair.

She is of slim build and approximately 5ft 6inches in height.

Police are urging members of the public to check any dashcam footage they may have in the area around the time of the assault.

Investigator Darren Byrne of GMP’s Tameside branch said: “Although enquiries are ongoing and CCTV footage is still being sought, we are keen for anyone who may have witnessed what happened or have dashcam footage around that time that could be useful in identifying further who the offender was.

“This is a serious unprovoked attack that has caused considerable and understandable distress to the victim, and we would like to help bring some form of closure to the incident with the help of the public.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police as soon as possible on 101, quoting incident 2226 of the 14th or to call directly on 0161 856 9335.

Details can also be passed via GMP's LiveChat function at www.gmp.police.uk or through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
