More than 30 voluntary organisation are set to take over Oldham town centre on Wednesday, August 17.

Groups such as Mahdlo Youth Zone, Medical Detection Dogs, Oldham Coliseum Theatre, and Dad Matters are amongst those set to attend.

The fair, which was held annually, is returning for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

The fair will be open from 10am to 3pm on the High Street, near Primark.

Rich Jones, the operations manager at the charity, said: “Many of the groups we work with rely on volunteers to provide essential services.

“We’re really grateful that Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise organisations find our Volunteer Team, and the events they host, a useful resource to not only help recruit volunteers, but to spread the message about all the fantastic work they do across the borough.”

Stallholders are all local not-for-profit groups looking for people to make a difference in their community – with anyone invited to come along to find out what’s going on in their area.

The charity is promising a range of CV-boosting opportunities, as well as a chance to connect with others and feel part of a team – and is encouraging anyone with a bit of spare time to come along.

Sarinah Khaliq, an Action Together volunteer, said: “The impact the volunteer centre makes to people’s lives is truly inspirational.

“It’s so meaningful and they do change people’s lives.”

Craig Bent, Action Together Vaccination Clinic Lead and Ambassador, said: “Volunteering has given my self-esteem a boost and built my confidence. A member of the public, during my shift, told me I was a hidden hero, for using my own time to give back to the Oldham community.

“I am proud and happier that I was able to make a positive contribution during a very tough time.”
