Oldham artist Chris Cyprus is launching a new exhibition, which will include paintings of Oldham.

Recently moving to Grotton, Chris, now aged 51, was born in Manchester – but he says he’s ‘now an Oldhamer.’

Starting out as a builder, Chris got into painting following a back injury and a battle with cancer.

Self-taught, the artist said he ‘just got on with it’ and has struggled to get his work in galleries.

Chris said: “It’s still quite difficult, a lot of the galleries don’t recognise me as an artist, so I thought ‘sod it, I’ll just open my own gallery, and that’s what I did.

“Over the years I’ve been on Gardeners’ World and The One Show and loads of other TV programmes and magazines – all sorts really.”

Chris’ new Autumn exhibition launches on Saturday, September 3 at his studio gallery in Woodend Mill, Mossley.
