Plans have been submitted for the construction of a three-storey healthcare facility at the former site of Shaw Baths, months after initial plans were scrapped.

Based off Westway, the proposal comes after previous plans were thrown out earlier this year after the Oldham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) withdrew its support.

The decision was condemned by councillors from across the political spectrum.

Now, a new proposal has been submitted by United Healthcare Developments as the effort to build a health centre on the land continues.

The proposed development site is currently made up of car parking areas, an enclosed garden area and previously cleared ground which formerly made up Shaw Baths.

The location is based next to Ashworth Court, which is immediately to the East, while the surrounding area is made up of a mix of residential and retail units.

The health hub itself would be constructed on the north eastern area of the site, with the remaining area to be made into a car park.

Drawn-out plans show the ground floor would include a reception, waiting area and 10 consultation rooms, with the first floor also mostly having consultation rooms.

The second floor would have administration offices and a meeting room.

A noise impact assessment has been carried out by PDA LTD on behalf of United Healthcare Developments Limited.

It concludes by saying "noise levels can be satisfactorily controlled" within recommended acoustic design standards so a high-quality acoustic environment is provided for occupants.

A tree survey has also been carried out, with Envirotech concluding that five trees would need to be removed for the centre to be built.

The original plans were scrapped when Oldham's CCG said the proposed design was "unaffordable".

This was said to be down to a rise in costs and inflation following the pandemic and the crisis in Ukraine.

Amongst those to express disappointment and frustration at the decision were Liberal Democrat councillors Howard Sykes and Louie Hamblett, as well as Conservative councillor Dave Arnott and previous council leader Arooj Shah.

Following the outcry, the Oldham CCG said it was "frustrated and disappointed in equal measure" and was committed to trying to develop a new health centre at the location on Westway.
