Two Oldham care homes have been rated as some of the top in the North West.

Ashgrove House Care in Chadderton and Millfield in Waterhead have been chosen by residents and their families as two of the top 20 care homes in North West England.

Both care homes have a ‘good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission, the official inspectorate of care homes.

There are 1,805 homes in North West England with the top 20 receiving an award from carehome.co.uk, a care home reviews website.

The award is based on reviews of the home written by residents, as well as their friends and relatives, between July 2020 and the end of June 2022.

Simon Sumner, manager of Ashgrove House Care, said: “We are delighted to have won the award and be voted as one of the top 20 homes in the northwest.

“Emma, the home manager, and the care team have worked tirelessly over the last two years through the pandemic caring for our residents and they deserve the credit this award brings.

“I feel very fortunate to work with a team of people who create a family atmosphere within the home, there is always lots of laughter, love and care which makes it feel like a very homely environment.

“I am extremely proud of the team for this achievement.”

Amanda Hopkins, reviews manager of carehome.co.uk, said: “We now have nearly 250,000 reviews of care homes on carehome.co.uk so we are able to give people a real insight into what a care home and its staff are like.

“Our reviews reveal the quality of their care, activities and nutrition as well as if the care home is value for money and the standard of their facilities.

“Reviews of Ashgrove House Care show they provide an excellent standard of care, and we would like to congratulate them on being a Top 20 care home in North West England.

“It is a huge achievement to be named as a top-rated care home by the residents who actually receive the care as well as their family and friends.

“Choosing a care home can be daunting for both the person going to live there as well as their family, so we hope our awards which are given to the highest rated homes will help make the search easier.”
