The Greyhound Inn in Royton has reopened after a six-week closure to allow for the pub to be refurbished.

The pub, which will appear in the upcoming sequel to 1997’s The Full Monty, had a soft reopening in the evening on Friday, September 16.

Filming of The Full Monty had some minor disruption due to the refurb preventing the set from returning to the pub.

Speaking to The Oldham Times, pub landlord Patrick Chetram said the reopening went well and was ‘very busy’.

He added: “It’s a long-awaited renovation – it’s had nothing done to it for over 30 years.

“Originally the pub was three cottages, 30 years ago they knocked through one of them and made it into the Greyhound we know today.

“Now we’ve knocked through into the next cottage and opened it up – substantial construction and steelwork to put in.

“Basically, everything that was in the pub was stripped back to brick wall – there was rubble everywhere, but it was managed really well.

“Everything – the kitchen was stripped out, toilets stripped back to the wall, all the equipment in the cellar is new. It’s been a huge, huge job – but the result is brilliant.”

Landlord Patrick said each week people would ask when the pub would reopen, saying: “I was out on the front jet washing the pavement, getting rid of the dust.

“It took me a few hours, because of the amount of people who stopped, even pulling over their cars, to ask when we were reopening – there was an immense amount of people asking.”

The pub’s renovation even disrupted the filming of The Full Monty sequel.

Patrick said: “They phoned up – they actually wanted to come back and do some more filming, but unfortunately we were closed and we couldn’t accommodate them.

“It was a shame because it was one of the original stars that would have been in that scene, we couldn’t have them in the pub because of the structural work that was being carried out – it wouldn’t have been safe.

“They’ve finished filming now, I think they’re all on holiday – it’s now in the cutting room getting ready for next year’s release.”

A formal opening night is being planned, and Patrick hopes to get some celebrities in attendance too, though he was coy when asked who he hoped to get in attendance.

He said: “I’m keeping that secret for now."
