Here is a round-up of some of the key planning stories from September, including a controversial proposal and new uses for old buildings.

Dozens of residents have voiced their concerns over a proposal they fear would turn a large Oldham building into a 'party house'.

The property sits at the junction between Mill Brow and Burnley Lane in Chadderton and is currently vacant and on the market.

The proposal is for the building to become a short-term letting property, aimed at groups of people wishing to rent for a short time to celebrate and gather for an occasion.

However, many residents have objected to the plans, along with the vicar of the church next to it and the headteacher of a school directly opposite.

On Sunday, September 18, a meeting was attended at the church on Mill Brow by residents, councillors, the headteacher of St Matthew's C of E and the vicar of the local church, who all expressed how they believe the plans would be detrimental to the area.

The building which previously served as Chadderton Police Station will become an office space after a planning application was approved earlier this month.

The police station was closed down in 2009 and has been vacant since.

Based on Victoria Street, just off Middleton Road, it faces Chadderton Bar and Grill restaurant and is mainly surrounded by residential properties.

The empty building will now become a shared office space to be used by individuals or companies who require a small amount of office space.

The former Minders Arms pub on Huddersfield Road is set to be turned into four new apartments following planning approval.

The layout of the plans shows two apartments on each of the two floors, with one of the downstairs apartments having two bedrooms while the other three have one.

All four will have a lounge and kitchen area and one bathroom.

The building itself is a semi-detached structure which sits where Huddersfield Road meets Holt Street.

While only minor alterations are expected to the building, the development cannot take place until a soundproofing scheme is introduced and facilities for waste have been submitted.
