An arrest has been made in connection with the alleged assault by an opposition player on Oldham Athletic striker Hallam Hope.
The 28-year-old suffered what the club described as "serious injuries" after being attacked on the staff car park following the home game with Chesterfield on September 3.
Hope needed hospital treatment, and the incident was reported to the police the following day, with Chesterfield stating they were assisting Greater Manchester Police with their enquiries, while Latics are understood to have provided police with CCTV footage.
A statement from GMP read: "A 27-year-old man was arrested on Friday (9 September 2022), on suspicion of assault following a report of the assault of a man in his 20s, at Boundary Park, Oldham, on 4 September 2022.
"The suspect has since been released under investigation."
